From mosaic workshops to murals and easy donation drives, Kind Works offers many ways to give back around Danbury and Bethel this season.

As the year winds toward the holidays, many people in Danbury and the Candlewood Lake area start looking for meaningful ways to give back. One of the most creative outlets sits just over the town line in Bethel, where a volunteer-run nonprofit turns clay, color, and community into a steady stream of kindness. Kind Works offers a way to help others that is as rewarding to do as it is to receive.
A Legacy Carried Forward
Kind Works continues the mission of Ben's Bells CT, which spent nearly 12 years spreading kindness throughout the region. When that chapter ended, the same staff and volunteers formed an independent nonprofit and kept the work going from the former Ben's Bells CT studio on Stony Hill Road in Bethel. Being independent lets the organization focus more closely on local needs and new ideas. Its values of compassion, collaboration, community, and integrity guide every program.
The Studio Experience
At the heart of Kind Works is a volunteer-operated art studio where people roll, cut, and glaze clay into pieces that carry a simple message. Volunteers create handmade items for sale and for public art projects, and the studio welcomes volunteers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No art experience is needed to take part. Many visitors find that a few hours of shared, hands-on work is a welcome break from screens and schedules.
Murals and Public Art
Kind Works volunteers also design and install large, colorful mosaic murals featuring the organization's signature green "Be Kind" flower, including installations in Newtown. These murals offer a daily visual reminder to everyone who passes by. Mosaic benches made by volunteers have become signature pieces as well, and some are offered at the organization's annual fundraiser. Each project brings many hands together, which is part of the point.
Workshops for Schools, Groups, and Companies
Kind Works offers kindness education and workshops for community groups, schools, and corporations. Programs focus on building social-emotional skills and encouraging everyday acts of kindness in classrooms, workplaces, and neighborhoods. Corporate team-building sessions give coworkers a chance to collaborate on something creative outside the office. For a business planning a year-end team activity, a studio session can be a memorable alternative to the usual holiday party.
An Easy Way to Help During Fall Cleanouts
Fall is when many families sort through outgrown children's clothing and toys, and Kind Works has made those items an easy way to give. Gently used children's items can be dropped off at Once Upon a Child at 67 Newtown Road in Danbury. Let the staff know the donation is for Kind Works, and the store will evaluate the items and make a monetary donation to the organization based on what is accepted. It is a simple way to clear closets while supporting local programs.
Shop and Celebrate With Purpose
Kind merchandise made by volunteers is available to the public, and purchases support the organization's mission. The annual Celebration of Kind Works is the group's largest fundraiser, featuring live music, local food and drink, and live and silent auctions. Proceeds support kindness education, community art, youth programming, and volunteer initiatives throughout the region. Handmade pieces from the studio also make thoughtful holiday gifts.
Why Kindness Builds Stronger Communities
Strong neighborhoods are built on small, repeated acts of care. Organizations like Kind Works give people a welcoming place to practice that care together, whether they are eight years old or eighty. For newcomers to the Danbury area, volunteering in the studio is also one of the easiest ways to meet neighbors who want to make the community a better place.
