Danbury and Candlewood Lake, CT Community

Spring cleaning is about to get a whole lot easier for Danbury residents! The annual Clean City Danbury Day returns on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, offering a perfect opportunity to declutter your home and property while contributing to a cleaner, more beautiful community. This highly anticipated city-wide event provides free disposal services for unwanted items that might otherwise be difficult or costly to remove, helping residents refresh their living spaces while promoting environmental responsibility throughout our neighborhoods.

The 2025 Clean City Danbury Day will run from 8 AM to 12 PM, providing a convenient morning window for residents to participate. This free debris disposal program is exclusively available to Danbury residents and residential property owners, so be prepared to show proof of residency when you arrive at one of the five dumpster locations. This community-focused initiative demonstrates Danbury’s commitment to maintaining clean, attractive neighborhoods that everyone can enjoy and be proud of.

Clean City Danbury Day features five strategically located dumpster sites across the city to ensure convenient access for all residents. You can dispose of your unwanted items at Danbury City Hall (155 Deer Hill Ave), Henry Abbott Tech High School (21 Hayestown Ave), Danbury Public Works Facility (53 Newtown Rd), Rogers Park (by the tennis courts), or WCSU Westside Campus (43 Lake Ave Ext). Each location will be staffed with helpful volunteers ready to assist and guide participants through the disposal process.

To participate, Danbury residents must bring proof of residency to any of the five dumpster locations. The event is designed specifically for residential use, which means commercial vehicles and box trucks will not be permitted to enter the disposal areas. This restriction helps ensure that the service remains available to individual households rather than businesses. IWS Oak Ridge Waste and Recycling, along with numerous community volunteers, make this valuable service possible for Danbury residents seeking to dispose of unwanted household items responsibly.

While Clean City Danbury Day offers a great opportunity to dispose of many unwanted items, certain materials are strictly prohibited from the main dumpster sites. Construction debris, grass clippings, yard waste, hazardous materials, and electronics cannot be accepted at the primary locations. This restriction helps protect our environment and ensures the safety of volunteers and staff handling the disposed materials. It’s important to plan accordingly and separate prohibited items before arriving at your chosen dumpster location.

The good news is that special accommodations have been made for certain items. Electronics can be dropped off at IWS—Oak Ridge’s Mom & Pop Center at 307 White Street specifically during Clean City Danbury Day hours. For scrap metal and white appliances containing freon, Dell’s Auto Wrecking and Scrap Metals at 16 Plumtrees Rd will accept these items throughout the event. These specialized drop-off points ensure that potentially harmful materials are properly recycled or disposed of according to environmental regulations, making it easy for residents to responsibly manage all types of household waste.

Clean City Danbury Day wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated service of community volunteers. If you’re interested in helping make this event a success, you must complete the required registration and indemnification forms before participating. These important documents can be obtained by contacting Hisham Rushaidat, the Constituent Services Coordinator at the Mayor’s Office. Volunteers play a crucial role in directing traffic, assisting residents with unloading, and ensuring materials are properly sorted and deposited in the appropriate locations.

For any questions about Clean City Danbury Day, residents can contact Hisham Rushaidat directly at 203-797-4511 or via email at h.rushaidat@danbury-ct.gov. The city has also made event information accessible to our diverse community by providing materials in multiple languages. Complete details, including flyers and descriptions, are available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, ensuring all Danbury residents can participate fully in this important community clean-up effort. This multilingual approach reflects Danbury’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring all residents have access to important city services.
